International Online Casino Business on the Rise
15 November 2006
Online casinos are available world-wide, anywhere an Internet connection is in place. However, the online casino industry has traditionally been mostly English speaking and US-oriented. A report Tuesday by online casino group 888 Holdings PLC said its revenues from non-US operations were up considerably in the third quarter. The 20 percent rise over the three months means $38 million income, up from $32 million in the same period last year.
The surge in business for the online casino industry is an encouraging sign, perhaps signaling that no encouragement is even necessary. Online gambling companies are trying to gear up on the international arena, after the US effectively banned online casino sites from servicing Americans. The Gibralter-based company closed off or sold its American operations, and is dealt at the London Stock Exchange. Their business seems to be not only unaffected by the changes in the US, but even to grow. In a separate development, Ladbrokes is reportedly holding talks to buy 888.
The company will likely use the extra income to reorganize and prepare for the new situation in the gambling world. Online casino companies are in the process of changing their marketing strategy. And the world, it seems, is responding favorably. As of the end of the third quarter, the online casino company had 3.4 million non-US registered members with real money accounts, a rise of 40% since the same time last year.
